Missions Ministry
Missions Team Chairperson Job Description

The Spring Creek Missions Team is charged with planning and coordinating the church's efforts to be in mission to the local community, the nation, and the world. As United Methodists, we believe love of God and love of neighbor go hand-in-hand. We are blessed, and we're in mission to bless those around us and to love God by loving our neighbors. Susan Deas invites you to learn how to share your time, talents, and resources by joining us.

Responsibilities of the Chairperson(s)
Arrange and lead meetings of the Missions Team on an as-needed basis.
Contact each Mission Coordinator for updates on plans, needs, and activities. Report these updates to the Church Council.
Request budget input from the Mission Coordinators and report to Finance Committee.
Coordinate the church mission calendar to identify upcoming mission events and bring these events to the attention of the church staff and Church Council.
Serve as the point of contact for people with new mission ideas, both to assist them in identifying people who would like to be involved and assist them in advertising and budgeting.
Work with the Mission Team to plan, coordinate, and direct two church-wide mission events each year.

Project Transformation:  Each summer, Spring Creek members volunteer to read with children in overburdened neighborhoods to help meet their academic, social-emotional, and spiritual needs. Be a Reading Buddy for a day or for a week. Contact Beth Kline for more information.

Boerne Community Coalition: BCC works with local sponsors and volunteers to improve the quality of life for children and families in our community by creating, connecting, and providing them with needed resources and services. Programs include providing lunches, camp scholarships, additional year-round support to food-insecure children and their families in our community, and neighborhood workdays.  Laura Gray welcomes your inquiries about getting involved in upcoming events.

Disaster Relief: UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) offers Emergency Response Training to volunteers who deploy to provide relief assistance in areas struck by disasters such as hurricanes, floods, or tornadoes. Volunteer opportunities are also available through home repairs and homeowner support many months after the event. You can get more information about training and serving from Randall Browning.

Taking It to the Streets: Every third Saturday, Spring Creek feeds approximately 250 men, women, and children in San Antonio who are homeless.  You can help cook a meal in the morning at Spring Creek at
9:00 am.  You can also help serve the meal that evening at 6:15 pm at Church under the Bridge @ 724 Chestnut St., San Antonio, TX 78202. Serving the dinner also offers a time to create relationships and give those in need some much- needed love. FAMILIES WELCOME! To be a part of this ministry contact David Riha is anxious to tell you how to become part of this ministry.

Days for Girls: Meet us monthly on the 4th Thursday, from 9:30 – noon in the Fellowship Building to sew and assemble washable feminine hygiene kits for girls in developing countries. These kits help girls live their lives in dignity and get the education they so richly deserve.  No sewing skills are required — there are both sewing and non-sewing tasks. Dee Ann Havely would love to tell you more about this service.

Quilts for Kids: Meet us on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30 am – 1 pm in the Fellowship Building, to help make quilts for hospitalized children.  We are participating in the international Quilts for Kids program, supporting children who are at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. Bring your sewing machine.  We provide all materials for the quilts. Contact Dee Ann Havely to find out more about bringing a smile to the face of a sick child.

Spring Creek CARES: Spring Creek CARES  (Community Assistance Relief Efforts) is an outreach effort intended to help individuals/families in Bexar, Comal, and Kendall Counties with transformational assistance to recover from personal or financial emergencies or natural disasters that put them, their families, their continued employment, health, or residence at risk. This assistance targets people able to provide for their own needs until faced with an unforeseen circumstance that puts that individual/family at risk for falling into a future of recurring assistance, potential homelessness, and for families and children, the possibility of generational poverty. Many Spring Creek members support this ministry through donations and service.  We invite you to contact Janette Reamer at info@springcreek-cares.com to learn more.

Rise Against Hunger: One Sunday each fall Spring Creek has a special worship service when we turn the sanctuary into an assembly line to package thousands of nutritious ready-to-prepare meals. Rise Against Hunger distributes these meals around the globe to people who are lacking nutrition due to poverty, war, or natural disaster. This is a church-wide event for all ages.  Wendi Brown invites you to contact her for more information.

Fill the Grocery Cart: Spring Creek helps the Elizabeth Ann Seton Food Pantry provide food for families in our area that are food insecure. Look for the grocery cart by the entrance to the lobby to donate your basic staples and peanut butter. Monetary donations are also welcome. Please designate Food Pantry in your Spring Creek donation.  $25 can buy $150 of food through the SA Food Bank – an easy way to make a big difference!

Magdalena House: Spring Creek volunteers help support Magdalena House in San Antonio. This ministry, founded by Rev. Denise Barker, provides transitional shelter, education, and hope to women and their children fleeing abusive situations. Help with babysitting on a Tuesday evening.  Teach a skill to Magdalena House moms.  Provide yard work or handyman skills. Check the calendar for the next Saturday Spring Creek Work Day, in which families are welcome to volunteer together in yard work, painting, and organizing efforts.
